Innovation activities can’t be successful with top-down or bottom-up only approach. Both approaches need its own mind set and responsibilities. To keep the balance between, gives much better results. By getting support from management without too much involvement, show respect and give value to the efforts of employees is the most precious support for successful innovation. Innovation gap analysis and innovation strategy is defined by upper management. However execution and idea creation has to be led by employees. Success depends on how democratic innovation you have in your company. To democratize innovation and keep it simple as a regular activity in every day’s life of employees is the secret sauce.
Employees must be encouraged to create their ideas as concepts and try to evaluate the results whether the idea is successful or smart fail. Importance is to find cheaper and easy ways to test the ideas as quick as possible.
Employees may not challenge the status quo by themselves. At least most of them will be losing the energy and spark thanks to toxic people and/or processes in the workplace. If they loose belief to stakeholders, they will stop creating ideas and you loose them very quickly. A few bad experience is spread around very quickly and to revert back the damage will require huge effort.
You need some high energetic people and mentors to help your innovators in the company. To leave them alone will give feeling “worthless” or “unnecessary activities” they are dealing with.
Innovation activities are not executed only for showcase. Since they are out of your operating principles, it does not mean worthless. Distruptive innovation come from unexpected areas. Don’t loose your innovators because of wrong innovation approach.

THE ALCHEMIST

Buket’s expertise are in human centric innovation, design strategy, design thinking and smart mobility solutions.
She graduated from Uludag University and earned BS degree and Masters degree in Electronics Engineering 1994 and 1999 respectively. After graduation, she started as electrical maintenance engineer in Cemtas Elk. Makina San AS. After five years working in the maintenance workshop of the company she built up her experience on control and systems. She got promotion as Electrical Team Leader and improved skill sets for diagnostics and troubleshooting. She joined LEAR Corporation as a Electrical System Engineer in 2000 and moved to Germany to make a fresh new start in Automotive industry. She worked in a multinational environment to get experience on automotive electronics and systems engineering till 2001.
After return back home country she followed a new career path in Ford Otosan as electrical systems engineer in 2002 till 2019. She took the important role of designing Transit Connect ,which is one of the most iconic light commercial vehicle, till 2015 both for systems engineering and Electrical PMT Leadership. She developed great experience on both technical and business side while working on such a big project with participants from different countries and culture. Her speciality is about electrical system design, development, program management, test and validation, launch and diagnostics. In addition, total value management, financials, quality management and presentation is some of the skillsets she improved by leading seventeen members of electrical team.
In 2015, she was promoted as Electrical Systems Integration Manager and held this position until she stepped out to found her company Fidelis Consultancy at 2019. She took the integration responsibility of all members of commercial line up such as Transit, Courier, Connect and Cargo. She coordinated around thirty five engineers in electrical engineering department under Product Development Management. Her passion to experiment and learn unknown led her to deal with innovation activities and digital transformation in the Product Development. She became intrapreneur and Product development innovation champion of the company while developing a new mobile navigation app (Easy Route) together with an enthusiastic developers. Team members were transformed from different skillset. Product was created from an idea to an app with more than 400K downloads as of Apr 2019. In paralel she created another sofware together with her team for fleet management system. She and her team were awarded with Most Successful Employees in Koc Group in 2018 (2nd rank).
In 2019, Buket Aymak made a big step and pursued her dream to found her own company Fidelis. She is aiming to help companies and startups to ease the innovation processes to create value for employees and customers. Her passion is to share the knowledge, get the results and make people happy…
